The Shard holds true to the spirit of Aeon unit design, being a simple, single-purpose unit. As such, the Shard is a dedicated AA unit with no other weapons or capabilities. It is armed with a Sonic Pulse Battery.
The Shard has decent armour and is quite speedy. Some players, however, believe that the Shard's position in the Aeon arsenal points to a weakness on the sea, since larger boats must rely on the Shard to defend them against air attack. It's worth keeping in mind, that despite its low HP and being the least expensive naval unit in the game by far, it is far more effective against air units than any of the other factions' frigates. It's more effective than frigates at AA as it possesses very good accuracy and a DPS of all the frigates AA combined, along with a pretty cheap cost and good build speed.
Versus the T2 cruiserEdit
Against T1 and T2 air it is better than the cruiser. For the same cost as a cruiser you can have many of these boats. The boats will have about the same DPS but will have many times the health of the cruiser making them much less vunerable to gunships or torpedo bombers. They are also almost 2x faster.
However, their projectiles lack tracking and speed, and the group of attack boats lack a defensive weapon or tactical missile defense, or radar, to take full advantage of their weapon range.
