     The only hospitable spot on an otherwise desolate ice planet, the Refuge is unremarkable, save that if a Gate could be built there, it would make an excellent staging area for further operations.

Arctic Refuge is a wintry map with four hills and peaks separating the combatants. There are four evenly spaced starting points, and a central area with some civilian units armed only with a handful of tech 1 point defenses.

Strategy Edit

This map does not have any hydrocarbon points, so early growth is a bit slower than most maps.

It is also quite large, making the early tech 1 rush less effective. This is because your opponent has ample time to go to tech 2 units, which are likely to cut your group of level 1 tanks to shreds, by the time they arrive at his base.

The middle area of the map is populated by hostile civilians, so don't try to cross there until you have a decent level 2 force, including scouts and mobile missile launchers. Probably best just to leave the civilians alone, though.

Be sure to get some AA units up around your ACU, because the gunship rush, or even a tech 3 bomber attack can spell a rapid suprise ending to your game. As usual, the tech 1 interceptors are the cheapest approach, but level 2 and 3 fixed AA guns might work for you if you have the energy and mass to spare.
