A battleship is the most powerful class of naval vessels. It has long-range, devastating artillery capable of destroying other surface units or bombarding land targets. All battleships have long range and powerful guns, and most have tactical missile defense and anti-air devices of varying effectiveness. All battleships have very high build times and build costs.
For a list of battleships, see the battleships category.
[edit] Faction Differences
All four factions have T3 battleships. The Aeon also have an experimental battleship, the Tempest, which is submersible.
All five battleships have devastating primary weapons that can bombard land targets and destroy surface naval units. Aside from that, they have a variety of other weapon systems:
| Battleship | Primary Weapon | Torpedo | Anti-torpedo | Anti-air | TMD |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| UEF Summit Class | Gauss Cannon x 3 | None | None | Linked Railgun x 4 | Phalanx Anti Missile x 2 |
| Cybran Galaxy Class | Proton Cannon x 2 | Nanite Torpedo | None | Electron Autocannon x 2 | Zapper Anti Missile x 2 |
| Aeon Omen Class | Oblivion Cannon x 3 | None | None | None | Will O Wisp Anti Missile |
| Seraphim Hauthuum | Heavy Quarnon Cannon x 3 | None | None | Olaris AA Artillery Cannon x 2 | Ele-athrun Tactical Missile Defense x 2 |
| Aeon Tempest | Oblivion Cannon | Heavy Chrono Torpedo | Quasar Anti Torpedo | None | None |
These varied offensive and defensive capabilities dictate very different ways of using these units. The Tempest can rule the water with its devastating array of weapons effective against naval units, and its anti-torpedo weapon. The Galaxy Class is most capable of operating unescorted because it has weapons to counter most threats. The Summit Class has some protection from air units and is able to destroy almost any other unit in only a few shots. But the Summit still needs significant escort, especially to protect it from submarines. The Omen Class is the most vulnerable, with only a primary weapon and a tactical missile defense weapon. The Seraphim Hauthuum is the only battleship equipped with a strategic missile launcher.
