Command unit

From Supreme Commander Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Command units are the pinnacle of warfare technology.

There are two types of command units: Armored Command Units (ACUs) and Support Armored Command Units (sACUs). ACUs are usually the first and only unit to arrive at a battle site. All other units are constructed at the site. sACUs are very similar to ACUs. Usually they are sturdier but less destructive. Command units are upgradeable, improving their offensive, defensive, intelligence, and construction capabilities.

Command units are the only manned units. They are transported to the battlefield rather than constructed, and in the single player campaigns, they are the only units shown with humans inside them.

[edit] Armored Command Unit

The ACU represents the player.

The Armored Command Unit (ACU) is the only unit on the battlefield capable of commanding an army, and is therefore (in Assassination mode) the most important unit on the battlefield. If destroyed in Assassination mode, the player's remaining units self-destruct, and the player loses the battle. The destruction of an ACU is typically the final objective of any major combat operation.

The ACU is the first unit brought onto the scene of any combat operation, and is capable of quickly building an army and leading it into battle. It's initial build rate is 10, and has an initial production of +1 Mass and + 10 Energy. It also has a Mass Storage of 400 and Energy Storage of 2500. The ACU can also build most T1 structures.

The ACU is a very effective early combat unit to fend off small T1 attacks. It uses a significantly powerful weapon, as well as the Overcharge Cannon which has splash damage and destroys almost any land unit in one shot. Additionally, ACUs regenerate their health at a constant rate.

ACUs are also have three upgradeable components, their right arm, left arm and back. These offer significant offense, defense, intelligence, stealth, economy or mobility upgrades. These upgrades take significant resources and time to construct, so they are generally considered mid-game or late-game elements.

The appearance of the ACU depends on faction ownership: there is the UEF ACU, the Cybran ACU, the Aeon ACU, and the Seraphim ACU

[edit] Factional Differences

Each Faction possess its own ACU, with somewhat different primary weapons and armor. They also have different upgrades available.

[edit] Support Armored Command Unit

A Support Armored Command Unit is a very sturdy humanoid vehicle with the ability to construct various economic units, factories and defensive structures. Unlike the ACU, which is a unique unit, sACUs can be summoned by the player as many times as needed from a Quantum Gateway. They are considered expendable because the destruction of an sACU does not eliminate the player from the game. Like ACUs, SCUs can be upgraded to enhance their offensive, defensive, intelligence, and construction capabilities.

sACUs are brought to the battlefield through a Quantum Gateway, which functions like a factory. Each sACU transported to the battlefield requires a considerable amount of resources. This process also takes a very long time, so engineers should be used to assist the quantum gateway and speed up the transportation.

sACUs are often used as very sturdy attacking units that can overwhelm enemy defenses. Unlike most military units, they have an engineering suite. They can construct many types of units, so they can rapidly build secondary bases or defensive structures. For instance, when they are underwater they are very vulnerable to torpedoes. While underwater they can construct torpedo defenses to protect themselves. They can also reclaim the wreckage of enemy units.

Dialogue from the single player campaigns show that sACUs can be manned units.

Like the ACU, the sACU of each faction is unique: there is the UEF sACU, the Cybran sACU, the Aeon sACU, and the Seraphim sACU

Tip: Once you have a good economy and can make these quickly (with sACUs or T3 engineers assisting the Quantum Gateway). sACUs are effective soldiers and in fair numbers (5-25) can sweep across an enemy's base with relative ease. Cybran sACUs should be even better due to their AA capabilities

Tip: when ever you have enough resources start building a lot of SACU's and bring them near the enemies base and send them one at a time to try to destroy the enemy. If they get destroyed don't worry since they'lljust blow up and destroy everything in their radius. Once all the SACU's are gone send your main force in and sweep up the place of survivors.
