The Cybran T2 Engineering Station, nicknamed the The Hive, is a Cybran unit. It is a stationary engineering station that can do everything other engineers can (assist, reclaim...), except move and begin constructions. While this unit may seem limited in its abilities, its real asset lies in its construction rate: 3 times as high as an engineer of the same level. Also, it has a very long range, and does not require approaching targets to assist them. when upgraded It has higher build rate than the upgraded kennel

Unlike The Kennel, The Hive doesn't have any mobile mechanics that can be destroyed, resulting in having to waste your economy and time to rebuild them. The Hive also has two upgrades, as opposed to The Kennel, which has only one. On the other hand, The Kennel drone rebuild time and resources are quite low, except in version 3603 where they are extremely high. Furthermore, if needed, The Kennel drones can work outside of their automatic operational range, albeit this can only be done manually. The Kennel drones can also perform other tasks while the original Kennel is upgrading, while The Hive cannot.

Use[]

One of the real uses of The Hive is to get work done. While engineers can get the job done, when too many of them are involved, they tend to become unproductive: they bump into each other, and they can't come into reach of their target. The Hive does not suffer from this problem. You can build them around air factories or land factories, and units will come pouring out. Be careful though, as you might be surprised at how much faster your resources will disappear, especially when construction of an experimental unit is nearby.

Another great use is the ability to keep a forward base intact without micromanagement... If you put two with any base they can repair any damage attained by combat, increase survivability, and repair themselves afterward (versus having only one and it being destroyed during an attack, leaving your base to crumble).

It also has the ability to assist shields. doing so increases the rate at which the shields regain shield points. having two or three of these 'supercharging' shields allows the Cybran player to keep his shields up longer when under attack. And given enough Hives, can render the shield all but impenetrable even under Mavor bombardment or multiple experimental attack. Doing so increases power consumption however. But dealing with a surprise attack or T3/4 artillery maybe worth the cost.

Take care when building Hives near T3 strategic missile launchers or missile defence launchers. The Hives have a tendency to default to assisting them in the absence of other orders. This is a pointless waste of energy as the Hives lack the engineering power to make any significant difference to the considerable build time of nukes or antinukes and you will need to redirect them appropriately.

Alternatively, a Hive may be placed under a T2 Stealth Generator (or a Deceiver Mobile Stealth Generator) without any supporting weaponry to automatically capture nearby enemy units. With no weapons fire to give its position away, it may be able to do so for quite a long time before your opponent notices it, and all it costs you is one Transport, one Engineer, one Deceiver, and the Hive itself - a tiny investment to steal access to your opponent's entire army. This is especially useful when placed near mass deposits in enemy territory where your opponent is not likely to send any escorts with their Engineers.

Tips[]

  • Unlike the Kennel, a hive cannot be upgraded and construct units at the same time. Therefore, hives should be upgraded sequentially so that they can assist themselves (namely the individual hive doing the upgrade) during the whole process.
