The Seraphim are an alien species introduced in Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. It is the species that the Aeon found on Seraphim II, and who taught them the delicate intricacies of The Way. Their race was long thought to be extinct, but in reality, the colony on Seraphim II was comprised of exiles who believed they could follow The Way without sacrificing the ability to fight.

When Black Sun was deployed by the UEF, it created a rift between the Seraphim's realm and humanity's. A legion of Seraphim units can be seen emerging through the rift in the intro sequence, jumpstarting the events of the game's plot.

Seraphim Warriors[]

Because of their close connection to The Way, and the extreme empathic feelings that arise from that connection, the Seraphim are physically incapable of harming another sentient being. In order to wage war, the Seraphim utilize warriors that have agreed to permanently sever their connection to The Way.

The results of this action are immediate and extreme. Once a Seraphim loses its connection to The Way, they transform into emotionless killing machines. But becoming a warrior exacts a much heavier price than the simple loss of emotion. Since Seraphim society is built around "feeling" each other empathetically, Seraphim warriors are no longer able to associate with the rest of Seraphim society. From that moment on, they are outcasts.

In addition, Seraphim religious beliefs hold that only one species can ascend and attain perfection via The Way; therefore, any Seraphim that severs its connection to The Way is agreeing to forever relinquish any chance of eternal bliss. In effect, they are "damning" themselves for all eternity.

Seraphim warriors are managed by specially trained War Leaders that manages a battle's overall strategy and then use The Way to keep Seraphim warriors calm and focused during said battle. The latter is especially important because a Seraphim warrior can easily slip into a killing frenzy and inadvertently alter a carefully constructed plan.

Seth-Iavow is the War Leader of the Seraphim warriors who invaded humanity's dimension.

Doctrine[]

Seraphim construction bespeaks a race far beyond the UEF, Cybran, and Aeon. The majority of Seraphim structures appear highly delicate, with materials many times stronger than the alloys that compose most of the Human Forces. They make widespread use of hover technology, possibly implying a home world with much lower gravity, and Seraphim ACUs possesses thin legs and is very top heavy, with much unaccounted for space. The Experimental Assault Bot, the Ythotha, has a lope that covers ground at an alarming rate.

Seraphim units are composed of highly advanced technology and sleek designs, appearing to be almost organic, like the Aeon, but possibly even more alien and foreign. Unlike the Aeon, however, they often serve a multi-purpose role — the combat scout for example, possess stealth and cloaking fields when stationary, but is also a light assault bot. The Seraphim's experimental arsenal consists of the Ythotha/Othuy assault bots, the Yolona Oss strategic missile launcher and Ahwassa strategic bomber. All of them extremely powerful but very limited in function on the battlefield as opposed to their regular units. With this in mind, the other three factions have found considerable ways to rival, and in some areas, even outmatch the technological advantage of the Seraphim.

Their overall unit designs are marked by asymmetry and curved, flowing surfaces decorated with crop-circle like engravings. Quite a few of their structures are supported by pillars of light, or possess components that are completely unsupported, seemingly floating in mid-air. Seraphim weaponry is by-and-large energy-based, like the Aeon's, but highly alien in both function, appearance and sound, as is to be expected.

Experimentals[]

Ythotha Experimental Assault Bot: With 3 main direct-fire weapons and the ability to outrun all other ground experimentals, the Ythotha is effective against most land units and considerably effective against structures or base defenses, making it one of the deadliest options for a land assault. The Ythotha even manages to be destructive in death, as when it is eventually felled, it will release an Unidentified Residual Energy Signature that uncontrollably attacks everything around it, including allied units. Powerful as it may be on land, it is completely defenseless against naval units when submerged in water, as it does not possess torpedo tubes, and while it does comes equipped with dual anti-air cannons, they are highly inefficent for fending off air units, needing to be escorted by anti-air units.

Ahwassa Experimental Bomber: The Seraphim's main weapon for all invasions immediately following the Infinite War, the Ahwassa is the most expensive aircraft in their arsenal. The Ahwassa's main method of attack, as its name implies, is dropping negative-energy strategic bombs on its targets, dealing considerable damage—enough to clear an unshielded base and to destroy unupgraded Cybran or Aeon ACUs. It is also armed with anti-air Autocannons strong enough to fend off a few Air Superiority Fighters, but ultimately needs to be escorted if it is to be kept alive for any extended periods of time.

The true strength of the Ahwassa, however, is that it moves faster than any other air-based experimental unit, enabling quick hit-and-run tactics. The Ahwassa's major flaw compared to T3 Strategic Bombers is that there is a lengthy cooldown period between each payload, where the Ahwassa must recharge before it can attack again.

Yolona Oss Experimental Missile Launcher: When constructed, the Yolona Oss creates possibly the most damaging strategic missile seen in the Infinite War. When launched, it requires at least 2 Anti-Nuke missiles to neutralize, and creates an explosion that covers roughly six and a half square kilometers, with almost nothing having the ability to stand against its power.

Needless to say, the Yolona Oss' damage potential is extreme and nearly unmatched, even by the durability of a Megalith or Galactic Colossus, and can massively tip the scales of battle in favor of the Seraphim. The missile itself is inexpensive and quick to produce in comparison to regular strategic missiles — the major downsides to the Yolona Oss is the construction cost of the launcher, and its limited carrying capacity of one; a huge downgrade compared to T3 Strategic Missile Launchers, which can hold up to five.
